The African Artists’ Foundation Health Insurance Plan is a unique effort to reduce one of the most significant obstacles to self-sufficiency for professional African artists. The lack of affordable healthcare or inability to afford the costs of medical treatment places most African artists in constant jeopardy. The AAF Health Insurance Plan will provide a subsidized health insurance plan for artists, which will, for a modest premium provide routine preventive medical care and insure against a catastrophic illness or injury.

The program will model itself after a successful program undertaken in Nigeria to provide affordable medical coverage for market women. The goal of the AAF is to insure at least 5000 artists. A focus of the program will be to encourage the participation of female artists through a comprehensive maternal health care plan.
