The Fabric of Courage | Salon Africana

I THE FABRIC OF COURAGE is a multidisciplinary salon celebrating the history of the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture commonly known as FESTAC77. This program aims to reconstitute the fragmented archive of FESTAC’77 while exploring the ways in which the seminal event continues to reverberate in Nigeria’s cultural imaginary and historic sites of pan-African cultural production.

The salon will feature large scale images of celebrated American FESTA photographer Marilyn Nance from her critically-acclaimed book #LastDaylnLagos. (This event will also mark Nance’s first return to Nigeria since 1977. ) Additionally featured is a singular but powerful image by legendary Nigerian photographer Tam Fiofori as well as a sound and film installation by vocalist + writer @somimusic. Copies of LAST DAY IN LAGOS and Chimurenga’s groundbreaking FESTA anthology will be available for purchase while supplies last.

This event is produced in partnership with African Artists Foundation, Center for Art Research and Alliances, Chimurenga Magazine, and The Africa Center. This program was made possible by the kind support of Mellon Foundation.

Location: At old Printing Press, Broad Street, Lagos Island
