About Samson Bakare

Samson Bakare (b.1993) is an art graduate from the Yaba College of Technology. Inspired by his architect father, he began his creative journey at a young age. Bakare was trained under prominent and veteran Nigerian artists, Abiodun Olaku, Raji Babatunde, Edosa Oguigo and Ejoh Wallace. His work centres around the propagation of the black identity and values in both contemporary and retrospective contexts while representing historical scenes. His narrative covers portraits of African men and women with blank expressions as they strive for cultural emancipation. His works have been featured in both local and international
exhibitions like Counter history (Paris 2019), Counter history Alliance Française (Lagos 2019) and Occupied Space Exhibition (Accra, 2020).
